Robben Island - a symbol of pain and perseverance in the face of incredible obstacles - has come to have powerful significance for visiting American chiropracter and clairvoyant Dr Elmer Edward Lindwall (known by his soul name as Isa) and his wife Ruth (known as Yolanda) who practice and teach a system of healing and emotional "releasing" work that frees people to forgive and let go the past to live more healthily and peacefully in the present!
Currently in Cape Town as part of a teaching trip to South Africa - in a quest to share their work and train facilitators in 33 countries world-wide - the Lindwalls visited Robben Island for the third time and gave freely of their expertise, time and love to those living and working on the island. Some - previous prisoners during the apartheid era - benefited from the process which the Lindwalls call simply "Freedom through Releasing".
Says Yolanda: "We believe Robben Island is a wonderful symbol for the rest of the world of turning defeat into victory. It is a place on which Nelson Mandela was imprisoned seemingly without hope. Yet he turned it into an 'educational opportunity' for himself and others and went on to be a peacemaker and great leader of a powerful nation."
In their own healing work, the couple show people how to let go of limiting false beliefs, fears, and negative programs which are causing them painful symptoms in their bodies. Most times these limiting programs and patterns are deeply imbedded in the subconscious. The key, say the Lindwalls, is to make these blocks conscious and release them for good.
A sprightly smiling octogenarian with a twinkle in his eye and an abundance of energy, Isa Lindwall amazes and astounds with his ability to "see" into the deeper causes behind a person's pain and bodily discomfort - and to assist the client to release current and even genetically inherited problems which he often sees clairvoyantly and treats by a combination of chiropractic and kinesiology together with releasing statements of powerful intent. But it is during workshops to teach people to do the releasing work for themselves that this husband-and-wife team shine! Their patience, unconditional love and spiritual clarity and willingness to go the extra mile for others is a strong testament in itself to the power of their process.
They explain their work in simple understandable terms. Think of your body as a computer printout indicating where the mind and emotions have snagged a glitch or created a virus. Teaching people to "clear out the viruses in their biological computers" so their equipment is freed-up energetically and they can lead freer, happier, healthier lives - is the main aim of their Releasing Workshops.
Our emotional angers, fears and worry fixations contaminate not only our bodies and brains but spread throughout a country - and the planet. A computer virus is a mechanical electronic fault - going out on the network. So too thoughts can penetrate steel. Nothing can stop a thought except another thought. And it all starts with each person clearing him or herself. Even after more than 34 years of doing this work, the couple still "clean up their own internal computer" on a daily basis - morning and night.
When not travelling the world on teaching tours which take them to 33 countries including Germany, Finland and Zimbabwe, the couple live in Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA. They met 34 years ago when Yolanda, a teacher of psychological truths and insights, went to work in Isa's successful chiropractic practice as his receptionist.
"As people would come and go I would identify with their pain or experience inappropriate pity or guilt or irritation with their complaints and end up with back problems myself," says Yolanda. "Instead of having continual spine adjustments on a daily basis, we discovered that if I made releasing statements as I went along, catching my emotions before they took root, I needed less and less spinal re-adjustment.
"When something disturbing hits our brain cells there is a corresponding reaction in the body and where the spine is involved certain muscle groups will pull it out of alignment. If the disturbance is not neutralised then a person will experience the same misalignment over and over again. We developed a releasing technique to release the negative thoughts and feelings both in the present - and in the case of acute problems - in the distant past where they originated.
The benefits of the releasing process are permanent and remarkably effective in the long term, according to workshop participants from previous years or those who have had a private session with Isa Lindwall. Most impressive is the healing many people access from genetically inherited tendencies to illness and disease.
Many people report relief from a variety of aches and pains and long-standing ailments, both physical (such as headaches and backache) and emotional (such as depression). Dianne Cooke of Stellenbosch, a holistic body therapist, describes how the Lindwalls - and "Freedom through Releasing" turned her life around. "My world was shattered by the untimely suicide of my 15-year-old son Damian and none of my previous coping mechanisms could heal the pain," she says. "In particular my head throbbed almost continuously with a headache which no medication could help. But from the moment I encountered the Lindwalls they helped me begin a healing process that went to the underlying cause of the pain, bringing light and love back into my life. The headache cleared immediately and permanently."
Dianne participated in 3 seven-day intensive Releasing workshops in 1997 and 1998. "Each time I accessed deeper levels of trauma stored in my memory bank. Layers of limiting beliefs, ancient pain and negative programming were neutralised and a healthy sense of wellbeing has returned to my life. This includes better family relationships, more energy and increased intuition and ability to help others more effectively in my own work."
